About me
I began my educational career as a classroom teacher in 1997. I largely taught upper grade students and the focus of my teaching was in neighborhood with high density populations, high rates of poverty and homelessness, and high rates of community violence. In 2001 I became involved in homeless education through a Friday night program where we would provide meals, crafts, and parent education for our families experiencing homelessness within our district. Following this, I took on increasing responsibilities on my school site and then within my school district on the implementation of McKinney-Vento rights and services. I was the Homeless Education administrator for our district until 2015 when I took a position at the County Office of Education. For a brief spell I was coordinating services for Foster Youth Services and then returned to Homeless Education in 2019. I now serve at the Homeless Education Coordinator for the County of Los Angeles. I serve and support 80 districts and over 300 charter schools as they serve and support their students experiencing homelessness.
