About me
Don English is a twenty-seven-year educator who has served in various roles with San Bernardino County Office of Education. Don has served in the roles of Director, Program Manager, Principal, Lead Teacher, Teacher, Grant Administrator and Grant Writer. Don has spent his entire career working with students in alternative and special education. Don has implemented extracurricular activities for those At-Promise students who no longer can participate in sports, school sponsored activities, clubs etc. which directly impact chronic absenteeism in a positive way. Don has shown that his leadership style is effective as demonstrated by creating a positive school climate, a culture of inclusivity and promoting attendance for employees. Don has chaired numerous WASC teams and has been instrumental in schools utilizing and understanding the reflective process in the self-study. He continues to provide supervisors of attendance trainings, as mandated by education code, throughout the state of California. Don has written and administered grants in excess of 2 million dollars in the Summer Youth Employment Training program/Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act, providing employment skill training to over 1000 youth. Don has been recognized as the NAACP Teacher of the year and San Bernardino County Teacher of the year for Alternative and Special Education. Don has presented at numerous national conferences assisting in colleagues understanding of those At Promise youth who are most at need. Don holds a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University, San Bernardino. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the university of California, Berkeley. He holds a multiple subject teaching credential, an administrative services credential.
